AfriCoast Energy, will now be responsible for all future renewable energy projects - particulary
wind and solar - while it will also play a key role in guiding AfriCoast Engineers' current

Outa welcomes court’s decision to set aside driving licence card tender

The Organisation Undoing Tax Abuse (Outa) has welcomed a court ruling setting aside the awarding of a driving licence card machine tender to Idemia following findings of material irregularities in the procurement process. The court order was granted on January 6, overturning the tender that had been awarded in September 2024 by the Driving Licence Card Account (DLCA), a Department of Transport (DoT) entity responsible for producing the country’s driving licence cards.

South Africa reviews prime rate used to price R6.2tr of credit

South Africa is reviewing the main reference rate commercial banks use to price trillions of rands of loans to clients. The South African Reserve Bank is working on the prime lending rate, it said by email. The measure has been fixed at 350 basis points above the country’s monetary policy rate since 2001. There are no timelines yet, the central bank said in response to questions.

ATNS assures that air traffic services at OR Tambo International Airport are working normally

South Africa’s air traffic management and control agency, Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS), has confirmed that air traffic services at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport (Ortia) operated normally and were stable yesterday. ATNS also assured that its staffing levels, in all key areas, were “adequate”. “The organisation can also confirm that it has valid operational instrument flight procedures at the airport to enable access and in cases of inadequacies, contingency measures are published to support operations,” further assured the agency. “ATNS remains committed to ensuring the safety, efficiency and reliability of air traffic services and will continue to provide updates should operational conditions change.”

Improved logistics, municipal service delivery, criminal justice key to GDP growth – Mavuso

South Africa can unlock higher GDP growth by making progress in three critical areas, namely logistics infrastructure, local government service delivery and the effectiveness of its criminal justice system, which would position South Africa to achieve sustained economic growth above 2%. Ethiopia begins $12.5bn construction of 'Africa's biggest airport'

Ethiopian Airlines on Saturday officially started a $12.5-billion construction project for what officials say will be Africa's biggest airport when completed in 2030 in the Ethiopian town of Bishoftu. The state-owned airline got the contract to design the four-runway airport in the town located around 45 km (28 miles) southeast of Addis Ababa.
